"Ukiyo" originally comes from the word "Ukiyo", meaning "a sorrow world". However, it transformed into a concept representing "a world where we should live in pleasure" as a reaction against pessimism, and also came to signify the fashion of the times.
Ukiyoe was a genre of genre painting for the amusement of the common people of Edo, but it crossed the ocean and had a great influence on impressionist painters, and has remained as a representative art form of Japan to this day.
There are two kinds of ukiyo.
One is a world of sorrow, as everyone knows,

The other is imayo, which means the modern style.
